For our client, AIMA Construction, a leading construction company specializing in residential, commercial, infrastructure and hotel projects, we are seeking an experienced Project manager to join their team.
Project Manager will lead and oversee their design and build projects from concept to completion. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, executing, and delivering projects on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. The role requires close collaboration with clients, consultants, designers, and internal teams to ensure seamless project delivery in the unique island environment of the Maldives.
Responsibilities & Tasks
- Lead end-to-end project management for design and build projects, from initial concept through to final handover.
- Coordinate with clients, architects, consultants, and contractors to define project scope, goals, and deliverables.
- Develop detailed project plans, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations.
- Manage design processes to ensure alignment with project goals, local regulations, and environmental standards.
- Oversee procurement and material logistics, especially for island-based construction challenges.
- Monitor and control project progress using project management tools and reporting mechanisms.
- Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Conduct regular site visits and progress reviews to ensure quality and timely execution.
- Identify project risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Lead project teams, providing guidance, performance monitoring, and conflict resolution.
- Lead development of construction execution philosophy and strategies through
- development of construction execution plans.
- Plan, coordinate and safely execute the work in accordance with the contract document, schedule and budget.
- Prepare work breakdown structures as per the scope of the contract.
- Defines and direct duties for project team members and determines project reporting structures and frequency of interaction
- Develops project schedules in conjunction with the project teams.
- Supervise and manage their own multidiscipline teams and meet deadlines as per schedules.
- Coordinate and direct construction workers and subcontractors.
- Evaluate project teams and ensure timely delivery of targets.
- Monitor and communicate project-related issues, scope changes, variances and contingencies that may arise during the construction of projects
- Review the work progress on daily basis.
- Ensure regular meetings with clients, third parties and project managers to report progress. Build strong working relationships with clients
- Identify risk and opportunity in all aspects of construction management and implement mitigation measures where risks are appreciable.
- Manage and mitigate risks to avoid delays
- Ensure quality construction standards and the use of proper construction techniques
- Perform inspections at completion of each construction phase, and sign-off on quality of workmanship along with crew leaders and external subcontractors
- Advise management on any recommendations for improvement to practices regarding health and safety, construction approach and quality control plans.
- Recommend measures to enhance improvement or efficiency opportunities that may arise
Autonomy- Freedom to carry out professionally the responsibilities and tasks described above.
- Analysing company spend, identifying areas for cost savings, and implementing cost control measures.
Team Collaboration & Reporting Relationships
- Working with other team members, providing guidance and support as needed
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.
- PMP or equivalent project management certification is an advantage.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in managing design and build projects, preferably with island or remote location construction experience.
- Strong understanding of architectural, structural, and MEP design processes.
- Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Excellent organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera, AutoCAD, etc.)
Working Conditions
- This position is based in Malé, Maldives.
- Likely to spend long hours standing and/or using office equipment and computers.
- Manage several requests and situations at one time and expected complete tasks within tight deadlines.
